The nature of Sedgefield creates an situation where most players hit from the same general areas and gives them an opportunity to hit wedges into many greens. While the proximity bucket stats are flawed, there’s a few courses on TOUR where they come in handy. This is one of them. Here are the best players in the field when you put equal weights on 100-125 yards, 125-150 yards and 150-175 yards:

Si Woo’s Chances

I’m happy to forgive Si Woo for the 11 he made on a par-3 last week, but that was really just an enhanced view into his approach play recently. Outside of the 10.2 strokes (not a typo) he lost on approach on Sunday, he lost another 6.85 over the first three rounds. He’s now lost strokes on approach in 12 of his last 16 measured rounds. Combine that with the fact that he’s lost strokes putting in 13 of his last 15 measured rounds and it’s hard to find much optimism.

The Value is in the Middle

Things That Probably Don’t Matter

• Si Woo Kim lost 10.21 strokes on approach in R4 last week, the worst round of any golfer on TOUR since the start of 2015.

• The GIR rate at Sedgefield Country Club is 73.8%, the highest mark of any course on TOUR.

• Brian Harman has gained 0.47 strokes putting, per round, on bermudagrass since the start of 2015 — the best mark of anyone in this field with at least 200 rounds.
