Genesis Scottish Open | Stats, Trends & Things You Don't Need To Know

Not The First Rodeo

While this is the first time that the Scottish Open has been a co-sanctioned event, it’s been played since 1972 and the last three editions were all at The Renaissance Club. Here are the best players in the field at this course:

Scottie’s Silly Slump

Yes, I know Scottie Scheffler is in the midst of a historic season. He’s already earned more money in a season than anyone in PGA TOUR history. However, when I look at his stats, I’m still in shock.

Scheffler is actually slumping with his putter. Over his last six events, he’s lost 0.31 total strokes with his flatstick. In the six events prior, he gained 21.82 strokes with the putter. He’s basically a full shot worse per round during the slump.

Here’s the problem — during the ā€œslumpā€ he has (2) runner-up finishes, a T13, a T15 and a T18. That’s wild.

Mind The Weather

It’s time to put on your amateur meteorologist cap for the next few weeks. The scoring and course conditions will be highly dependent on the weather, which can change a dozen times over the next few days.

As of right now, they are forecasted to get some rain on Wednesday which could create some soft and advantageous scoring conditions. They might escape precipitation during the event but they won’t escape the wind which has a 12MPH baseline for every day of the event.

Soft Conditions = Birdies

If you provide the best players in the world with soft greens, they generally take advantage. Here are the best birdie-makers in the field:

Buy Low, Buy High?

Here are a few notable prices:

  • Viktor Hovland is the cheapest in a non-major since 2021 Genesis Invitational.

  • Matt Fizpatrick is most expensive since the 2021 Bermuda Championship.

  • Spieth is the cheapest since 2021 Hero World Challenge.

  • Cameron Smith is the cheapest since 2022 Tournament of Champions.

What Does The Fox Say?

Meet Ryan Fox, from Auckland New Zealand who is currently rockin’ out on the DP World Tour. He’s a bomber who has never ranked outside the Top 10 in driving distance on the circuit but he’s really more than that.

His last (8) starts on the DP World Tour have featured (8) Top 15 finishes:

  • WIN

  • T15

  • T9

  • T8

  • T2

  • 2nd

  • 3rd

  • 2nd

It feels different when you write it out like that. If you use raw strokes gained, he’s gained more than anyone in this field over the last 36 rounds:

Early One & Done Ownership

  1. Matt Fitzpatrick 10.0%

  2. Tyrrell Hatton 8.5%

  3. Tommy Fleetwood 8.0%

  4. Hideki Matsuyama 5.6%

  5. Collin Morikawa 5.2%
